The difference between hiking is just that hiking is just long hours of walking on the trail while mountaineering is the sport of climbing mountains. Hiking is much easier and doesn’t require and climbing skills whereas mountain climbing requires special skills and a certain fitness level to perform.

  • You have to carry more equipment
  • Takes Couple Weeks to Months To Climb
  • Sometimes Expeditioners travel with animals.

Hiking is MUCH safer than mountaineering.

There are generally more risks involved with mountaineering.

Hiking has some danger, of course, but it’s not nearly as risky because you don’t have to worry about things like falling off the edge of a mountain or being crushed by rocks!

You just need to be careful about wildlife, getting lost, weather and your physical condition.

It’s still possible to injure yourself though if you’re not careful!

It’s also not as expensive or risky so it really doesn’t matter if something goes wrong because there are no huge consequences involved with hiking.

However, if you want to really challenge yourself, get a great workout and push your mental/physical boundaries then Mountaineering is definitely the right choice for you!

You can also do both if you are interested in them equally.

However, I would recommend hiking over mountaineering because it’s much safer but still has many benefits!

There is no right or wrong answer here!
